Banda de Armada Portuguesa
Antologia do Centenário 1903-2003
Some recordings are just too hard to resist. Here's the official centenary recording of the Portuguese Navy Band, from old folk songs done in brass band style at the dawn of the age of recording (some scholars say these are the first recordings of any kind made in Portugal) to contemporary compositions in the most modern, almost avant garde styles. Along the way they dip into jazz, folk (of course, they do the "Sailor's Hornpipe" among others), rock and even knock off a nutty version of "In The Navy" (yes, the disco classic) and never fail to deliver the tunes and songs (a great male choir does a number of the songs on the set) with great panache and style. Anyone who loves brass band music will have to have this record of a century of Portuguse musical sailing. It includes good historical notes in Portuguese and English

Please note! Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
