MacColl, Parker and Seeger
Song of the Road: The Radio Ballads Vol 2
The building of the M1 motorway
![]() |
Devised by Ewan MacColl, radio producer Charles Parker & Peggy Seeger, the "Radio-Ballads" series set out to crystallise in words & music the experience of different ways of life - the words being supplied not by actors but by the real occupants of those lives & jobs, whether miners, fishermen, boxers or teenagers. The 8 programs were first broadcast by the BBC from 1958-64. 6 of them were subsequently issued on LP but have been unavailable since the early '80s.
Volume 2 of the "Radio-Ballads" series tells the story of the making of the M1, Britain's first motorway. Among the songs Ewan MacColl created for this radio-ballad was "Hot Asphalt."

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
