Volume 2 of the stunning Stern's collection of the master's work. 2 CDs of essential Congolese music. See Volume 1 |
More info: 20 years ago, on the 12th of October 1989, François Luambo Makiadi - to his many millions of fans known simply as Franco – died in a hospital in Belgium. His body was flown back to Kinshasa, Zaire (now DR Congo), where it lay in state during four days of national mourning. • It is not possible to over-estimate the importance Franco had to Congolese and, through that, to all African music. For more than 3 decades he had been at its very core. When he sang and played, presidents quaked and more than a nation listened. • In this release we bring to a climax the story of the final 9 years of Franco’s life: a time when he had some of his greatest hits, when he made some of his strongest statements. It includes the superior, yet surprisingly rare, version of ‘Mario’, possibly his greatest hit. It includes tracks specially re-mastered and not previously released on CD. • In 2CDs and 48 pages of eloquent, thoroughly researched notes and rare photos, building on the success of Volume 1, Sterns are proud to present volume 2 in their labour of love: Francophonic. If you have any interest in music whatsoever – this is absolutely essential listening.

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
