The Solidarity Singers of the New Jersey Industrial Union Choir
Solidarity, It Can't Be Beat!
In the economic and political times that are on the horizon, it's probably more important than ever that the average folks stick together and sing. That's what the Solidarity Singers are doing, adapting classic songs of labor and liberation to the new times; the age old folk-process in action. It's neither slick nor what you'd call "professional," but rather homespun, genuine and personal.
"We'll stay out on the line"
"There is a power in the union"
“We are a street chorus, not a concert choir. Our preferred venue is a picket line. We try to lift the spirits of people engaged in struggle and help them to carry on. Only a few of us know how to read music, but we all know which side we’re on."
Over the past six years, the Solidarity Singers have appeared more than a hundred times on picket lines, at rallies for labor and other progressive causes, and in occasional concert settings, including the annual May Day celebrations at the Botto House /American Labor Museum, where this CD was recorded. The group is available for scheduling through its director, Bennet D. Zurofsky. E-mail him at: [email protected]
Please note! Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
