The record label writes:
No other Tango orchestra has travelled so widely or played to so many capacity audiences as the now legendary Sexteto Mayor, who are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year. Surely there could be no better time than this to issue a double album charting their unparalleled career. 13 new works have been recorded exclusively for this anthology. One of the CDs is aimed exclusively at Tango dancers. Instrumental pieces are included alongside Tangos sung by Adriana Varela, whose smokey voice, temperament and depth of emotion have made her one of Argentina's leading vocalists.
Sexteto Mayor stands for classical Tango in brilliant, modern arrangements, Celebrated as "the world's most famous Tango orchestra" (Süddeutsche Zeitung), they have toured the world to huge acclaim with their magnificent show "Tango Pasión", which played to capacity audiences on Broadway for nine whole months. Years ago, Le Monde recognised Sexteto Mayor as "undoubtedly the best Tango orchestra from Buenos Aires. The six soloists play like poets and make their instruments sing." Their incredibly broad repertoire ranges from the early classics of Carlos Gardel to the music of that revolutionary innovator Astor Piazzolla as well as their own compositions by bandoneonistas José Libertella and Luis Stazo. With their virtuoso skills, the musicians of Sexteto Mayor pay homage to the history of the genre. They never lose sight of the origins of Tango in the early twentieth century in the bars and brothels down by the Rio de la Plata, where Blacks and Gringos on the margins of society sought brief solace from homesickness and oppression by immersing themselves in the sensual rhythms of these melodies. „Sexteto Mayor transports a vision of paradise regained in Tango." Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
